Theo's story
Hello there!
My name is Theo! My foster mama says she thinks I am a Dachshund/Beagle mix since at 9 months old I only weigh 17lbs. I am cute as a button and ready for my forever family.
To tell you a little bit about myself, I was found on an abandoned property with 7 other dogs. The people who had been living there left and when they left they left us to fend for ourselves. A really nice couple and their family started feeding us and reached out to Second Chance to see if they could help all of us find homes. This couple spent time catching all of us (I was a little more cagey) and brought us to our new foster home.
Life before had little human contact, so it has taken me some time to get used to being handled and being a part of a family. I do have to admit that I really like it but sometimes when I get nervous I will tinkle a little. Foster mom has been really patient with me and I am finally starting to trust her. I still will play keep away with her when she tries to bring me in from the yard, but she knows that I still love her. After all, once we are in the house hanging out, I will run up, give a quick kiss, and skitter away. Foster mom will pull me up on the couch with her sometimes when she is not working and we just cuddle and snuggle and I cannot help but love that. I just can't contain the sigh of contentment. I need a forever family who will be patient with me like foster mama has been. Even when foster mom isn't available for cuddles, my favorite place to be is the corner of the couch piled up on the pillows.
Because I lived with so many other dogs and my current foster home has many dogs, I have never really been alone. Because of that, I need to be adopted to a home where there is another confident doggie who can show me how to "dog" like a real dog. I need a furry companion to help me learn that life is really not so scary. I also live with kitties and they are okay too but a doggie friend is still so much better.
I live with little kids in my foster home and while I am never mean to them, I have to admit they scare me. They are loud and unpredictable sometimes and so I would much prefer a home where I do not have to have little little ones. Even though I am still young, I don't have that crazy puppy energy that mixes so well with small kids. I am more of an old soul.
I am trained to be in a crate whenever my foster family is away from the house. I don't mind it one bit as long as I have a nice cushy bed to snooze away on. I also have not had any accidents in the house other than the submissive urination.
Foster mom thinks I would do best in a home with a fenced in yard. The reason for this is because my exposure to leash walking has been minimal and I refuse to potty on a leash. A house without a yard is setting me up for failure with my potty habits since it would be all new to me and I already dislike the leash a lot. When mom has had to take me to the vet, she usually just carries me in since I am so little.
I know I probably seem like a lot of quirks compressed into a little body but I can promise you that once you have my love, you have it forever, and it is worth it. My adoption fee is $275 which includes my neuter, microchip and registration, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, heartworm testing, and being started on heartworm and flea/tick preventions. If you have any questions about me you can email my foster mom at fchsjess@gmail.com. If you would like to arrange a meet-and -greet or think that I may just be the dog for you, please apply at /adopt-a-pet/meet-a-dog/?aid=8892
