ADOPT ME!
Meet Teague (NCSR # 366)! Teague is a 4 year old salt and pepper Schnauzer boy with natural ears and a cute natural tail. He weighs about 18 lbs. Teague came to NCSR as a transfer from another Schnauzer rescue that needed our help to place some of their rescued Schnauzers. Teague had rough beginnings when he first came into rescue. He tested positive for heartworms, and had to undergo treatment. We are happy to report that Teague is now healthy and heartworm free! Teague has been in foster care, and here is what his foster family tells us about him: Teague is loving schnauzer boy looking for a family he can trust. He was a bit skittish when he first arrived in our home. We suspected this poor guy had not been treated well by his former owners, because he shied away from our outstretched hands and was scared of quick movements. But over a few days as he settled in, he started trusting us and became a happy and engaged dog. Though he probably wont be a dog that will sit in your lap for hours, hell always be happy to see you and will gladly roll over and let you pet his belly. His uncropped tail will wag wildly every time he wants a little attention! He does well on a leash and although he was out of shape when we got him (because of months in a crate while on heartworm treatment), he was soon keeping up for hour-long walks and even short jogs. He loves to be outside! He doesnt pull excessively on the leash. He initially lunged a bit at cars as they passed by, but with some conditioning, he is doing much better. He likes to greet other people and other dogs while on the walks and doesnt show aggression. Because he loves being outside, we strongly recommend a house with a fenced yard. Teague is an escape artist, and though when he sneaks out a door he doesnt go far, it would be a good idea to have a fenced area within which he can roam and play. He also loves to go for rides in the car. Teague was initially very territorial when he came into our home, and growled a bit at our other schnauzer, but acclimated quickly. They are now good friends and play together well. Initially, he didn't trust groomers and vets, and was sensitive about being handled (brushed, washed, trimmed). But once he trusts you, there is no problem. We have trimmed him, washed his paws nearly every day, and he tolerates it fine. He has no problems with food. Hell wait to eat until you tell him its okay, and doesnt mind being handled or having his plate removed while eating. Teague is crate trained, and feels comfortable sleeping in his crate throughout the day. He is housebroken and though he was initially a persistent marker outside, we didnt have any problems inside after we got him on a schedule (he spent a great deal of time in a crate while at the vets during his heartworm treatment, so it took a few days to refresh him on housebreaking; now he does well). Because of his background and temperament, we believe he is ideally suited for a house where he can grow to trust his owners and where there are no young children. Teague is sometimes scared with quick movements, though loud noises dont bother him. He has a lower energy level right now, but that will likely change as he continues to get in shape. He does enjoy playing occasionally and will play fetch until hes exhausted. He would probably love to have a home with another dog for a playmate. While he is an alert watch dog, he doesnt bark excessively unless he senses a threat (we have cows next door that he really wants to warn us about). Teague is a truly special boy who just wants to be loved and be in an environment he trusts. He has the sweetest face and big eyes that light up when you pay him attention. He deserves a great home where he can be a member of your family.
