Jodi's story
**Physical fenced in back yard required**No apartments**
Hello! My name is Jodi and yes I am a handsome black lab mix. I got my name from the military cadence call, left, left, left, right, left. I am truly house trained, know my commands, ease and am great on a leash (when there are no other dogs around), enjoy going on walks, short or long, love a nice car ride, and really love people. I do have what is called leash reactivity when I see other dogs while on a leash. It is going to require continued and consistent training for me to overcome this obstacle, but I know that with the right family working with me I can learn that I don't need to be reactive. I am good with other dogs when I am off leash, for example at doggy daycare, but I should not be kept off leash near my home as I am a protector and will guard my area from intruding animals. It's just me and two adults that are in my house. I am used to an invisible fence at my home but I am looking for a physical fence in my new home because I am very protective of my yard and want to avoid having issues should unwelcomed guests come into my invisible barrier. I like playing hide and seek in the house, tell me to sit and stay, go hide, call me once and I'll find you. I am a gentle giant and very behaved in the house. I take treats very well, I don't beg at the table. I do sit and stare hoping for a few dropped crumbs or a table scrap, but no noises. At my home now I am not allowed on the furniture, but I did get caught on my humans couch once (Whoops!), so they got me another bed to be used in their main gathering room. I don't need, want, or use a crate. I am trusted in the house alone, usually just sleep while you are out. I like treats and working on retrieving, not with a ball but with my bone. I don't mind getting a bath outside either. As far as water goes, been in it up to my belly and liked it. I have lived in a home with other dogs in the past, but for now I would rather be the sole dog in the house, although I do have two cats that I am friendly towards now.

History:
My mom passed away a couple of years ago and I was taken in by her daughter. Second Chance was contacted by my owner's daughter to place me into their adoption program. I was adopted by a nice family, but they have a lifestyle that is not conducive with my needs, so I am looking for another home again. I know this next home is going to be just the one I need to stay in forever!!!
Personality:
I am a big lover, feel free to cuddle with me on my bed, its big enough for two. Or the floor will do, too. I also love to have my head rubbed from my eyes, ears and down my neck. I usually try to ease my head onto your lap for a quick rub or caress. I will lay at the edge of the couch while you are on the couch, a little rub by your foot or lowered hand is nice too. I am a great sleeper. I think I am worn out by my walks. I am not an early riser, you get showered and dressed first then I'll be ready to be let out. You will know when I need to be because I will walk about and gently whine. I am not a really furry dog, so not too many fur balls rolling around. Only thing rolling around is me in my owners grass, I love to do that. I come back up all masked in dry grass. My coat is shiny and I like to be brushed. I am pretty low maintenance. I mentioned I am being trained to be polite to other dogs while on leash, which is going to take time and patience. I don't scare by trucks or cars passing by on the street. I pretty much prefer to be hanging out on my own, on a dog bed, chewing on a bone, or in the same room an arm's reach away while you watch TV or work at your desk.
Cohabitation:
Great with humans, cats, they rule and I follow in line. Dogs, well I've successfully lived with them in the past, but for now am hoping to be the only apple of your eye.
Favorite Activities:
* Going for walks
* Hanging out in the same room as you
* Playing in the yard, but not for too long for I am 6 years old
Reason for looking for a new home: I am looking for a new home because my owners lifestyle is different than my preferred lifestyle.
Medical: No issues
